Merkel slams Russian poll/ d.welle
German Chancellor Angela Merkel has criticised the Kremlin for repressing opposition parties ahead of Russia's parliamentary election. Speaking in an interview with German public radio, the chancellor also voiced regret that no observers from the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe would be in Russia for the vote. At the same time, Merkel said that it was important to maintain good relations with Russia. She said Moscow had a key role to play in resolving international disputes over Iran's nuclear programme and the future status of the Serbian province of Kosovo.
