Pakistan plane with 37 on board 'disappears' en route to Islamabad
Reports from Pakistan International Airlines say that a domestic flight has vanished off radar screens. More on this story as it develops.
A commercial plane carrying some 37 passengers and some 10 crew members lost radar contact on Wednesday, an airline spokesman said. The Pakistan International Airlines flight was heading to Islamabad from the northern city of Chitral. According to the carrier, it lost contact with air traffic control shortly before landing.
Local officials told the press that Flight PK-661 had crashed in the northwest of the country. The airline said that all resources had been called on to locate the ATR-42 aircraft and send rescuers to the crash site. Security forces have also been mobilized for a search and rescue mission, the Pakistani military said.
