Nearly a million evacuate as California fires rage

In the United States wildfires have forced nearly a million residents to flee their homes in California. At least 1,800 homes and businesses were destroyed in the fires across the southern coast. One person has been killed and more than 50 people have been injured as 13 wild fires rage out of control. Police officials said that nearly 350,000 homes were evacuated in hardest-hit San Diego County. President George W. Bush has declared a federal emergency for seven counties, a move that will speed up disaster-relief efforts. The White House said Bush will travel to California on Thursda----from d.welle
