Blair officially endorses Brown as next leader
Britain's finance minister Gordon Brown is set to begin his campaign to become the country's next prime minister and leader of the Labour Party. This comes as current Prime Minister Tony Blair officially endorsed Brown to succeed him as Labour leader. Blair announced on Thursday that he would step down on June 27. He told his supporters that despite bitter controversy over British involvement in the war in Iraq, he had always done what he felt was right for the country. Meanwhile, the prime minister is due to meet outgoing French President Jacques Chirac and President-elect Nicolas Sarkozy in Paris.
